What used to be the Potato Hall of the former Pfanni factory is now home to the contemporary WERK7 theater. The programme includes plays produced by the theatre itself as well as guest performances and workshops. The 180-degree stage makes for a particularly intense theatrical experience.
At a site where dumplings were once made and where there was subsequently a party zone up into the 2000s, a new development project has now been under way for several years involving the construction of offices, hotels, apartments and numerous cultural institutions. One of these is WERK7 theater, which has been open to visitors since 2021.
What makes this theatre in Werksviertel-Mitte particularly special is how close the audience gets to the actors on stage, as well as the fact that it is open to very different genres – ranging from in-house productions and guest performances including one-person plays such as Caveman and Cavewoman, multimedia theatre à la Longjohn and-Broadway musicals such as Title of the Show. With its own series of events, entitled SoundWERK7, the organisers regularly provide a stage for all kinds of music from musical theatre evenings and classical music through to 1920s swing and jazz.
WERK7 theater in Werksviertel has a capacity of about 700, the seats encircling the stage area are in a 180-degree curve. The theatre bar opens one hour before the performance for a relaxed start to and evening of theatre, which is sometimes rounded off with a dialogue about the play with the performers. The intimate setting of this theatrical experience is what makes WERK7 theater so distinctive.
